First let me start with , I worked at a Saab Dealer from 1988-1996 and was service manager from 1994-1996. and any Saab Guy can change the voltage regulator blindfolded in less then 30 minutes, but given testing lets say well under 1 hr. so if you are charged 2 hrs I would be looking for a new service center. But to your question, just what is happening, is the car not chargeing? is the battery going dead? if it isn't charging the first step would be change the voltage reg, if that doesn't fix it then change the alt, and charge for the alt removel and replacment. if just changing the volt regulator solved the charging issue then the charge would be less then 1 hr labor plus the regulator. But if the Alt is the cause of a drain on the battery then thats different and a little more confusing, but typically from my experience generally caused by something internal in the alt, I would still change the regulator first, but i would have charged the customer differently because thier would be more time involved in testing and so forth. but still you need to rule out the regulator. but let us know what your symptoms were???
