a notch (or at least mine doesn't). So you put the hose on the rad and on the t-stat housing, then make sure you can feel the flange that helps hold the hose on. The hose goes between the flange and the hose end.
It also may be worth using new clamps. I didn't when I did my t-stat last weekend, but usually replace clamps every so often. They gain corrosion over time and seem to lose their grip. If you are re-using clamps the corrosion can make it hard to screw them tighter. A little WD or some white grease will help this and you can re-use.
