Well, took it to the local indy yesterday. (No time to do the work myself, unfortunately...) No real answers, just the suggestion to replace the radiator, since the plastic on the top is getting brittle with age.
If the radiator were somewhat flow-restricted, could that cause the system to over-pressurize? If the water pump were pushing coolant with nowhere to go (i.e. not flowing enough volume through the radiator), could that cause the problem?
Other than the catastrophic head gasket possibility, no real answers yet.
I've made sure the hose is attached as firmly as possible. Clamp looks to be in good shape. I moved it slightly closer to the radiator to get as much "meat" of the connector as possible. I've got spare coolant, rags and a bag of oil-dry in the trunk just in case. I'll keep a close eye on the hose, and hope for the best.
Thanks for the input, and I'll update as needed.
