Engine mount fix revisited, 1 year later ! Posted by vtsnaab [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Just a quick post to say that about a year ago I was all ready
to do my top mounts and had bought them already when a quick
and easy fix was posted by Marvin Stockman here at TSN.
He suggested getting the best, freshest silicone caulking and
after cleaning the old mounts - to fill all the crevices with
the silicone caulk.
I got the recommended stuff and some brake parts cleaner, gave
them both a really good washing, let them dry, and propped them
on center using wooden wedges.
I then went to town with the caulking gun and filled every
crack and crevice as neatly as I could.
I also took his advice and smoothed the caulk with a moistened
finger.
Let is set overnight and presto! - instant, solid mounts !
The good news is this:
It is now about a year later, and they show no signs of serious
wear and the car still shifts as nicely as it did after I used
Marvin's method to firm up the mounts.
My compliments and sincere thanks to our Mr. Marvin Stockman !
It is truly a measure of genius to use simple things to effect
a long lasting quality repair with very little work.
I recommend this repair to anyone with loose engine mounts, and
as he said, if it doesn't work right for you it only cost a few
dollars and a little bit of time to try it.
Best Wishes, and as always - great appreciation to the Saab
community for the great help !
