Hello everyone,

I'm not sure if i have a reputation for asking stupid questions about stuff, but if i don't have one yet, i'll be sure to have one after this post...

SO...

in jan of 2002, i paid a mechanic to re-do my suspension on my now retired 1990 9000 turbo. He was in charge of ordering the parts for me, and I told him I wanted better shocks/struts and lowering springs, and i didn't really care what they were. His shop was a european only performance garage in upstate new york, and he had lots of fast exotic cars in his lot that he fixed, so i trusted his judgement.

Sounds stupid already doesn't it... ;)

well...

I told him i wanted "sporty" and "stiff" feeling components, and i recall he tried to talk me out of getting the stiffest feeling stuff... i always thought that he had just ordered stuff based on his comments, and that what he ordered was halfway between being soft and hard... but... i never knew for sure. i never saw the original receipts or boxes...

BUT, To be honest with you, i was so happy with his setup, i was sorry for ever doubitng him. And for years i never felt the need to do any other suspension modifications to that 1990 other than the shock and springs i had from him. So, it could have been worse i suppose... but...

now that i've stripped my 1990 down to nothing but a frame, I'm trying to figure out what he put on it, and decide if i want to put these parts on my 1988 carlson, or ditch them and get something new.

I knew he put on Bilstein shocks and struts, but after our discussion on which stiffness to go with, i figured he didn't get the siffest ones.

However, after carefully going over the receipt, he DID list a model number of the shocks he put on there.

2 v36-4034 Strut assembly $290.00
2 b36-1785 Shock absorber $218.00

If you look these up on sasab.com you see these model numbers listed as the "bilstein HD" series for the 9000...

http://www.sasab.com/DisplayItems.cfm?CategoryID=%23%27%3CG%28%0A&SubDepartmentID=%22%27%3CD%20%0A&DepartmentID=%21%270%20%20%0A

seen at that link above...

This means i guess either he didn't care to argue with me about not getting the stiffest ones, as i believe the "HD" series are the hardest ride(?), or, these were all that were available at the time...

But, even by today's prices, these appear to be DEAD ON with what he charged me... So i believe i truly have the HD's. I found the struts for $146.30 each elsewhere, which brings me closer to $290 for the pair...

ANYWAYS...

sorry for the ramble...

I guess i proved without a doubt i have bilstein HD shocks and stuts...so

TO THE SPRING QUESTION!!!

My springs are RED RED RED!

Always have been!

Unfortunately for me, the receipt he gave me doesn't give a model or part number of the springs, it simply says on the lines:

1 9000 RED Lowering springs $375.25
1 Freight Lowering Springs $ 11.26

SO

I've always been under the impression that i've got "intrax" lowering springs.

but all the intrax springs I see everywhere on the internet are PURPLE!

I thought that intrax had different colors for different year and model 9000's, but they all seem purple to me.

so, stupid question number 1, can anyone simply confirm that i at least do NOT have INTRAX springs because they're red, and not purple???

and stupid question number 2, what springs would you GUESS that i have here, being that they are red, and being that they cost friggin $375.25 plus shipping??? :)

If I had to guess, it would be the swedish dynamics red series springs, and by today's prices on their website, it's close to the $335 they ask now...

http://www.saabperformanceparts.com/item186.htm

the other option for RED springs would be b&g, as sold by group9performance.com.... how would i tell them apart though?

http://www.group9performance.com/inventory_moreinfo.html?inventoryid=13598&year=88&makeid=SA&modelid=9000-T-001&catalogid=1

GP9 only asks $249 for them now, that's a ways off from the $375 i paid in 2002...

Somebody PLEASE dont tell me that swedish dynamics springs are just b&g springs being sold at a higher price... ;)

And swedish dynamics claims lifetime warranty...HMMMMM

do springs lose their "springyness" over time, and should they be replaced every so often??

Does the "lifetime warranty" mean i can return them for a free replacement????

How can i prove what they are if i never saw the original receipt from the mechanic other than the work order he gave me?

or is that last question the dumbest one of them all? ;)

I just have to laugh at this whole post... feel free to laugh with me, at me, or whatever... just someone help me out here.

I LIKE the hd shocks and struts, i like the stiff ride with whatever springs these are. I will be taking advantage of the lifetime warranty on the shocks and struts and hopefully get some new ones. If i want to "downgrade" to the softer touring shocks tho, will they let me?

i decided after reading some stuff on here that i DON'T want intrax springs, and if i actually have them i would want to replace them, but telling me i have something different will be better than intrax springs IMHO...

any ideas anyone?

should people like me not be allowed to drive? or spend money for that matter :)

ug

thanks in advance
