Yeah, I am betting the 5 would make a difference in a colder environment. As the oil thins you lose your knock.
Try a cheapo 10w30 and see how you fare. If you like it, cool. If not, dump the contents of the oild filter and replace the oil with a cheapo 10w40. In the USA we have oils that cost less than 1/2 a pound/quid when translated into US dollars. I would imagine you have the same. Once you find a viscosity you like, change to a more expensive make of semi- or totally- synthetic oil.
