Get the "Y" connector at an auto parts store. I forget the size of it, but just take your old one in and match it up (1/4", 1/8" ??). Work the hosing off of it slowly to avoid breaking it.
The line going into the firewall feeds the boost gauge. When I replaced my heater core (ugh, what a chore!) I replaced that line then. This was with approx. 100+K miles on the car. Personally, I don't think it needed to be replaced (was still pliable), but I was already in there. So I would say to you that you can just leave it. It's not exposed to engine heat or anything else harsh like the rest of the line is.
I'm sure you'll find your problem from the list I gave you. I posted the usual suspects. My first guess is that the check valve in the PCV system is shot (85% of the time in most cases of low-boost). Get it from a site sponsor cheaper than the stealer. The design has changed so don't be alarmed when the new one is bigger than the old one.
