though it did make it a bit louder, not annoyingly so. I found it made the car feel more flexible and nicer to drive (OK, it was a 200bhp 2.3). I didn't feel that power was reduced at low revs as GaryK reports, but can offer no hard facts on that one. The system replaced a 62mm "Saab Sports Exhaust" = Aero fitment.
Downsides on the full system were alignment problems, the occasional broken hanger and less ground clearance (all related, presumably). Also, the 3" bend at the manifold is bulky and tightening the nuts quite difficult (they can come loose). Plus long-term it's aluminised steel rather than stainless.
Some downpipes look as though they do the bend in 2½" then go to 3" immediately afterwards, so you get a smoother bend but not the extra cross-sectional area – have no idea how much this hurts their performance, if at all.
I believe JTs still have the cat in the "old" position and they come with the O2 bung in the downpipe, which is all you need, right?
As I understand it, with the turbo fitted you don't want extra back-pressure from the exhaust, whereas more flow is good and will also help reduce exhaust gas temperatures. By the time it's through the cat the exhaust will have cooled somewhat so you have the option of reducing to 2½" (could use standard components if it made financial sense).
Is the Group Nine stainless system still available? Haven't seen any feedback on it here.
However – I have decided to stick with standard on my "new" Anniversary for the moment, though with a snazzy Abbott back box that fills the hole in the Aero style bumper very nicely. Quiet, smooth, just as the others say. Like you, I may revise this when something rusts out and I have an excuse to spend more money.
