Back in the day of carbuerators and normally aspirated engines changing to a higher flow exhaust and a less restrictive air cleaner could get you several new horses under the hood. But today, with computer-controlled engines, and in the case of Saabs, turbos, this stuff seems to have less of an impact unless you are doing lots of mods--like ECU upgrades, re-flowed head, etc, etc.
I debated and researched this for my '96 CSE manual last winter when the exhaust was sketchy and decided stock would be fine. My indy agreed, too.
Do you get a difference in performance with a 3"? Yeah, maybe a little, but for day-to-day street driving it just doesn't matter except to your ego.
In a well-engineered car like a 9K stock works fine unless you're doing a lot of other stuff and need the higher flow for high speed track days, and other fun stuff.
Just my $0.02.
