I have a 96 CSE manual, which I bought when I was looking for an Aero and gave up looking for a fairly priced one. My wife can't drive stick, which creates problems when dropping off my toy car, a Volvo P1800 or doing other ferrying of vehicles.
I also found that, in my opinion, because of the wide gearing, the clutch on my car is very touchy and/or causes loss of traction. I'm not used to burning rubber in a four cylinder car, being a person who drove Chrysler 300's and DeSoto FireDome V8's as a kid and went from to a Volvo coupe and then station wagon.
I don't race or autocross my present car, but do want the same kind of response in the replacement when I need it. So I'm very interested in feedback from other owners concerning the adequacy of the SAAB automatic (slushbox, in 50's jargon) versus the manual and the degree of difference in the performance between the CSE and the Aero.
A related question is the degree of difference in the quickness between the two vehicles. I love the responsiveness of my car and that is one occasion when the tall gears are very handy. I typically don't get out of 3rd until the end of the free ramp.
