Ganzo, Steve:
On my '96 CS, I have had the driver's side rear door fully apart. There's only one switch internal to the door, a pretty good sized blue reed switch, magnetically triggered, hard mounted to the latch mechanism at the back edge of the door (peened into place). It's triggered by a big fat cylinder, I guess magnetized, that sits right over next to it WHEN THE LOCK BUTTON IS DOWN, and that pops up away from it when the lock button is up.
That seems to be the only switch inside the door, and it's not related to the "open door" light.
There's no switch inside the door that indicates that the door is latched; it seems that yao is exactly right when he says it's the push button coming out of the hinge-side door pillar, that not only tells interior lights the door is open, but also tells the pictogram.
So Ganzo, give that switch a really close look. It pulls out of the door pillar I believe, and is sealed up inside plastic so its works aren't likely to be corroded.
If its rubber boot, the accordion-pleated part, is off it, then it might not be getting pushed far enough by the door itself to fully shut off. Or it might have some internal failing.
Some people have posted on here complaining about odd random indicators of various sorts on these cars. I suppose the switch itself could be working fine and yet you could be seeing indications that the door is open.
Hope it's not that.
If the switch doesn't seem to be your problem, try posting various descriptions of it in the search box here and reading everything that comes up. You might get steered straight by that route.
