What you suggest doesn't make any sense. Remember that clutch engagement is opposite to pedal movement. When the pedal is all the way out, the clutch is at maximum engagement. If very little pedal movement is required from that position to disengage the clutch, what does that tell you? It tells you that the clutch is almost disengaged while in the fully engaged position, which implies the exact opposite of lots of material.
In reality, engagement point is affected more by hydraulic issues than clutch wear, as the difference between a new and worn clutch is just a couple of mm.
For what anecdotal evidence is worth (not much), I just replaced a clutch and bled the hydraulics and engagement point is very low on the pedal. On another car, clutch engagement was in the top half of the pedal travel; After bleeding the clutch, engagement moved to near the bottom of pedal travel.
