The 9000 is a more solidly built car in my opinion. Can I explain it with details? Not really. It is just a feeling. The interior fit and finish is far better in my 9000 and the seats are more like Saab seats are expected to be. The problem is we can't all drive 9000s forever. My 2000 Aero is fast and tight, and is much quieter on the highway. I bought it with 60k and did a sludge check. It also had every bit of paper work included. I would not hesitate to buy an early 9-5. At the very least have the oil pan dropped and take a good look. The heat and AC problems are minor if you research it. The alarm siren needs a creative solution, really they are pretty good cars. I would buy another, but might investigate the later Aero seats.
