Did they both stop at the same time? Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Clarion switcher, Montana Tom ![]() ![]() |
The stock Clarion system in my 1994 car had the radio/cassette unit, a single CD player/equalizer, and a six-CD changer in the trunk; these are wired in a series. The CD changer will not work without the single CD/equalizer as something needs to control the selection of the proper CD and the track; these controls are not on the radio unit. As such, the six-CD changer will not work without the single CD/equalizer, and there is no way that you can plug its cable into the radio directly (not plug compatible). The earlier (not sure what year your car is) single CD player/equalizers have known defects (capacitors) and seem to die; if you have a CD loaded in the player, it will attempt to play it, can't, and won't let your changer operate properly.
I found an equalizer-only unit on ebay to replace my single CD/equalizer, has the same changer controls. I can't play single CDs from inside the car, so I load up six different CDs at the beginning of each week. I also have a clarion RF modulator/CD changer controller that I took out of the car when I bought it (allows the CD changer to work with the radio, but audio quality suffers as it gets modulated and played over the FM tuner), if you are interested in it drop me an email.
