That would seem to me to be the approach of bending the axle. How much is just enough? And how can you really tell? And what else is being distorted?
If you have to get it into spec, there are two things I think of:
There ARE ways to shim the axle. Some folks here will know, and also look on the performance board where some more esoteric things do get covered.
Next, albeit more complex, consider a used axle from a car that you can determine has not suffered an accident. 9Ks are at the point where they show up in boneyards with bad engines or trannies but no body damage, so there are straight axles out there. Call Goldwing in Hastings, NY (north of Syracuse). Could you drive across the border, get the axle and drive home?
Good luck!
