Regarding the "problem" of rapid heat loss, that is by design. The car generates enough heat to warm a house or two, and after warmup the problem is getting rid of the excess heat.
In an ideal world the coolant would remain a constant 180~190 degrees and the oil a constant 210 degrees. The battery would remain at whatever temp is ideal for batteries of that type. The vital mechanical parts would go through no thermal cycles and last a lot longer.
The thermostat enables the coolant to warm up as rapidly as possible and then maintain an optimal temperature range. Indirectly it helps the oil to warm up, but that is not its function. Your oil does not warm up as rapidly as your coolant. I don't have an oil temp gauge (yet), so I take it easy with the loud pedal for the first half hour from a cold start.
