these ARE designed to be sacrificial, in the event of a huge pothole or Curb impact, would you rather that something pricey bend/fails instead?
I'm not buying the 'failed for no reason' story :-)
Access and bolt tightening shouldn't be any kind of an issue... once one has learned the 'procedure', these can be swapped out inside of a half hour.
I always just use a Ratchet. Knowing that spark plugs are 15/20 lbs.. usually.. pulling twice as hard has proven more than adequate tension for more than a few of these rascals .
Anyhow you have it all sorted now... Good.
