I vote for reuse of the 13/16" nyloc nut Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: quite the quandry, derf, Fri, 18 Mar 2011 09:32:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The 13/16-inch OD nut is the old standard spark plug size, and my old 13/16" spark plug socket is deep, fits through the hole in the strut mount and has a hex surface built into the top, ideal for this task (and probably what the strut was designed for). When I put on new struts, I used the new larger nuts and now have no ability to retorque the nut on top of the new struts, which would have been very useful when trying to diagnose a noise problem that I had (was due to bad strut and strut mount). Without being able to hold the shaft of the strut, turning the top nut just rotates the strut mount, no affect on tightening the nut.
