At 35 watts the Xenons should produce about 35% less heat than 55 watt 9005s. If the Xenon lamp isn't positioned any closer to the reflector than the 9005 lamp, then I don't see how it can cause any harm. It is possible with technology to produce more lumens per watt, but I don't think it is possible to produce more heat per watt.
Sorry my previous post misled regarding aiming. The filament position of a 9005 is identical to that of a 9006, hence no need to adjust the aim. If it wasn't for the electrical connector modification the 9005 would be plug and play.
If you want even more lumens than a 9005 provides, I understand that the HIR1 (9011) bulb has the same filament geometry. It consumes 65 watts like the 9005 and produces 2500 lumens. Or the low beam HIR1 (9012) bulb that consumes 55 watts like a 9006 and produces 1875 lumens. It hasn't been done yet in a 9000 to my knowledge, but is has been done in other cars that use a 9006 halogen in the low beam. I've posted a link from another forum.
I'll write up the 9005 mod procedure and post it in a new thread for anyone who is curious. There are two tabs inside the bulb's electical connector that have to be removed with a box cutter, small file or a soldering iron. I use a box cutter with a fresh blade, very carefully of course! And you have to add the o-ring from the old 9005 to the new 9006 to get a better seal.
