Does the evaporator get cold As in can you somehow get at it enough to check and see if it's actually working?
Seems that if there is a charge and the Compressor is working, then there is either a blockage in the system, or perhaps the Comp is simply not pumping? (that's an ugly thought) is the metal bit of the hose to the condenser close to 'too hot' to touch? I believe it should be. Is the condenser itself warm at least? Just checking if the 2 ends of the circuit are working.
There is possibility that the Air Mix flappers are somehow messed.. But a finger 'temp test' on the evaporator would answer that quickly.
Didn't understand the pressure switch bit, I thought that it only acted to override the Compressor in case of a charge pressure issue, in either direction. As in if the comp engages.. it ain't broke? Or is my theory wrong?
What little I know of AC 'stuff' is only from working on mine.
Trial and Error.
Like you, I became disgusted with the local and allegedly reputable AC shop.
