Unfortunately I have done this job a lot after owning a bunch of 9000's. Usually due to ripped outer boots, not failed CV bearings.
1. Loosen the axle nut before jacking up the car. 2 foot breaker bar and a pipe cheater usually does it.
2. Jack up car, place the jack stands and remove the wheel. Support by frame or rear A-arm bushing and let the hub/brake dangle.
3. Pull the U-bend ABS sensor wire out of the clip.
4. Remove the axle nut
5. I usually use a puller tool that bolts to the lug bolt holes and presses the axle through the hub. I get it started coming out before removing the strut bolts. Unbolt the 2 strut bolts to hub assembly. I used to beat the axle out of the hub with a wood block but I think you could damage the wheel bearing. For the last 20 years I've used the puller. Easy peasy. Push the axle out of the hub.
6. Undo the inner tripod boot and pull the axle out. Try not to get sand and crap in the inner tripod cup.
7. Reverse to install except I use the axle nut to pull the axle splines through the hub. Torque is 240 ft lbs or something like that. I put the breaker bar on the nut and stand on the end.
To change the outer boots I always do it from the tripod end. I have had zero luck getting the CV joint off an axle shaft. For me, it's way easier to do it from the tripod end. Beware of undersized tripod boots. I believe the CSE and Aero use a larger diameter tripod assembly and the CS boots don't fit. I have a a bunch of them that were supposedly were for CSE's and Aero's and I think they're CS boots. Fortunately the inner boots hardly ever fail so I reuse them. Outers go all the time.
