The bottom line is remanufactured parts are inferior to OEM- warranty or not. The warranty literature never said a thing about aftermarket parts- it is buried in the contract. However, I will admit I was really hot for this car but was not going to buy it without a warranty. Also, my salesperson was a bit sweeping in her claim of what the warranty would cover. That is why I researched the major problems so thoroughly (thanks Quasi!) before I agreed to the warranty. I wanted to make sure they would cover everything. The value of my repairs have now exceeded what I paid for the warranty (yeeha!).
Interesting side note: When I called WarrantyGold to get a quote from them, they said they wouldn't offer comprehensive coverage on a four year old Saab. They said they had previously, but it got too expensive. MasterGuard, my warranty company, sold me a 3/36,000 almost bumper to bumper warranty. I can't believe they don't know the risks.
Another side note: Here is how MasterGuard works: The only things that are supposed to be fixed on the car are items I complain about. When my mechanic tried to have the power steering hoses replaced because they were leaking, he was told not to do it because I hadn't complained. They were non-plussed when he inquired what they would do if the entire rack failed and had to be replaced due to lack of fluid, or what they would do if it caused an accident. It's amazing what kind of liability these warranty/insurance companies will risk.
I now know to complain about everything on the car in order to get it covered. It's too bad MasterGuard decided to pull this baloney- I have posted positive comments about them several times in response to fellow Saabnetter's extended warranty recommendations. They were willing to lose my business over a CV joint- now, I'm willing to let everyone know.
