If you put any kind of external amplifier in your car, it's always a good idea to run a seperate power cable directly from the battery to the amp. Nothing ruins a new amp more than your car burning up from overheated wires. You can get those amp wiring kits from the audio stores, but often it's much cheaper to just get some good thick electrical cable from your local hardware store and wire it yourself. I went under the dash in the driver's side footwell and found a hole in the firewall right in front of the battery, plugged by a piece of rubber. Ran the cable through there, you only have to run the positive cable, the negative cable from the amp gets grounded to a good point on the car (I used the seat mounting screws). You shouldn't need to upgrade your alternator unless you've got some _major_ huge system, and even then you'd probably just need to put on a big capacitor to handle the occasional extra current demmands. Your battery should also be fine unless you insist on running your system with the engine off, then you'll find that you drain your power and kill your battery pretty quickly unless you invest in a deep-cycle battery.
