Chad makes some good points. You don't want the cutoff frequency between your woofer and mid (or subwoofer and woofer) to be too high, or your front will sound 'thin' as all the midbass will be coming from the back.
In fact my car has this very problem, but it sounds good enough that I'm not going to cut holes in the doors or fiddle with custom extra speaker boxes somewhere to fix it. And I'm picky!
The Fs on my Audax 4" woofer is 120 Hz, and they are in essentially an infinite baffle, or even dipolar configuration, due to the lack of enclosure behind them. This means that they essentially won't be putting out much of anything significant below 120 Hz. Pretty high, considering my subwoofer crossover is set at 80 Hz.
If you Focals really only play down to 300 Hz, I'd tend to agree with Chad in considering a different system. There are some good component speakers, or even Focal speakers, which use a true 4" woofer rather than midrange. Really, there is not a huge difference between a 4" cone midrange, and a 4" cone woofer, except the Fs (free air resonance). In a car, I really see no big reason to use a midrange as opposed to a woofer. The improvement in midrange quality between a very high quality 4" woofer and very high quality 4" midrange will be likely too small to detect, except maybe if you're sitting in the car with the engine off and no noise around you. And even then...still minor.
See what Focal has to offer in the 4" woofer selection.
