You have some credentials to discuss the SZ50 tires because you have owned a set, even if on a Ford Probe, but I have some comments to make about your statements.

(1) No high-performance tire (non-M+S) are recommended for snow or ice.
Some of us in warmer climates almost never encounter either condition, and many others swap their hi-perf rubber with snow tires in winter.

(2) If you've managed to kill a set of SZ50's in 15k miles, you drive much more aggressively that I do. I got 35k out of my first set on my '91 9KT, not a Ford Probe which may not be relevant in a Saab discussion, before selling it--and the set presently on my Aero seem destined to make around 30k. Keep in mind that the old model, which is all I've owned, has a UTQG of 220 while the new EP model is rated at 340. What's more, the EP's are purported to perform even better.

(3) To say that these tires are "OK" in the wet is an amazement to me. Here in the Deep South wet conditions are commonplace, and wet performance is my foremost criterion in buying a set of tires. In the past I played musical tires, as every set I bought through five Saabs was something different, in a continual search for the perfect tire. I can assure you that after trying many brands and models of V- and Z-rated tires, these are by far the best in the wet. They are also exemplary in every other category, even wear. In my experience, only the Pirelli P700Z and Michelin Pilots (stock Aero tires) could go the distance these FS's are capable of.

(4) You are the only person I've encountered that was dissatisfied with these tires. If you want to see your place on this scale, visit the Tire Rack and click on the ultra-high-performance-tire survey.
