Old Style Better if Engine Explodes?

No expert here, so I have no answers to offer, only more questions:
1. Why did Saab change from the old style to the new style. (What was the rationale.) One would probably want to know this before taking what could be a step backwards.
2. Is your reasoning as follows: If you just use the direct Abbott replacement downpipe+converter (which comes with a "freer flowing" core), then you get a "7 hp" increase. Whereas if you use the Abbott replacement for the older style, you get a "6 hp" increase; PLUS whatever increase, maybe "5 hp", there might be from a higher flow core and/or converter. Is this your thinking? [I put all the hp increases in quotes because for I know these figures are all hokey, and who really knows if these are additive.]
3. A question for Abbott would be: If you went to the trouble to make a direct replacement for the new style downpipe+converter, did you increase the radius of the bend(s) like you did in your replacement for the old style? If not, why not???
One advantage, I suppose, of the old style is that if your engine explodes (i.e., ejects its internal parts outward and downward) like what happened to...well what do you know, BillJ...then the hot converter is not in the way of the ejecta/projectiles and there is less chance of a fire.
