However, my thinking is: the Abbott downpipe/cat does not address the restrictive sharp turn in the downpipe, which Abbott make a big noise about with their older-style downpipe, and I believe it is narrower as well. I would also have more choice of free-flow cat if I went with the separate downpipe.
I haven't been adding up horsepower, since I don't believe the individual figures are additive. I imagine they are more a marketing thing. Those of us that own 9KTs know that horsepower is a small part of the overall picture. I'm looking more to enhance turbo response, which is a bit lacking in the Aero, due to the larger turbo.
As to why Saab moved the cat, I believe it may be the case that moving it closer to the engine makes the cat more efficient at reducing emissions. Since this is probably not necessary to meet our less stringent emissions laws in the UK, I don't see any reason to retain this set-up if there are advantages in changing it.
