The MAP sensor is under the dash, but only on later year cars. No MAP on an '88T.

The click you hear is the brake pedal switch - the switch that turns on the brake lights.
The APC solenoid switches between base boost (de-energized) and full bost (energized). When you press the brake pedal, OR engage the cruise control, the APC drops into base boost - so the APC solenoid stops clicking. This is done because there is no reason to have full boost with the brakes on.

I assume you hear the APC solenoid clicking while at idle. That's not right, but what you are chasing now (click of the brake pedal switch turning the APC off) is normal. The real question is why the APC solenoid is clicking.

There are a few possiblities. Do the simple stuff first - make sure the connector to the APC box is on tight. Pull it off and reseat it. A loose connection will make the solenoid click. Make sure the wiring to the solenoid is OK, and the connector is on well. Make sure the ground lead (black wire) from the solenoid has good attachement to ground. Pull it off, clean the surfaces with some Scotchbrite or fine sandpaper, and reattach.

If that doesn't fix it, you may have either a bad or loose knock sensor, or the sensor is good but really detecting something. If your engine is particularly noisy, the knock sensor *may* pick it up. But I'd look for a loose sensor or wiring problems to the sensor.

Here's an interesting one - replace your spark plug wires. And get a quality set - I've heard of electrical noise from the ignition getting into the knock sensor, which will cause the APC to switch.
