No, I don't think it's the ground wire. A ground problem will probably be a buzz or a whine. I have also never had a ground problem that was evident with the car off. Others may have had different experiences, however. It could be a speaker wire issue, but I don't think so.
I wonder if it is not a problem with these Infinity amps. I have a 2 channel kappa amp driving 2 kappa 6.5's in the rear of my car. There is a definite hiss from the rear speakers on my car that is audible when the volume is low or muted. It doesn't bother me because you can only hear it in the back seat (where I rarely am) and it's not very loud. I have suspected that it is the speakers beause they are an older model with a different type of tweeter than the current model and not as clear on the very high frequencies. Now you have me wondering.......
Maybe you should give Infinity or Crutchfield a call and ask. I would be interested in hearing what kind of response you get.
