I'm pretty sure your problem is not DI related.

Unless the car has traction control, there is no real limp home mode.
I would make sure that the electrical connecter to the BPC valve is making
good contact (connected and no pushed-back pins).
I would check the routing of all the vacuum lines. Hopefully the diagram
on the inside of the hood is still there to guide you. Removing the head
requires almost all the vacuum lines to be disconnected. Maybe one got left off.
