After reading posts in the BB I used Bar's leaks on my '91 Saab 9k CDT (135K miles) and '95 Ford Aerostar 4.0L V6 (90K miles). The Ford began showing erratic temperature gauge behavior, needle swinging from high to cooler and back and forth like the T-stat was closing and opening cyclically - within 30 days of adding the Bars Leaks. Antifreeze was about 1.5 years old and I do not know the age of the T-stat when it died. The dealer said the "crud" in my coolant had clogged the thermostat. Cost $250 at dealer.
The Saab T-stat died - just let the temp run up too hot and into the red after about 6 months of running with the Bars Leaks. Granted the T-stat was probably the original T-Stat and the antifreeze was about 1 year old.
Cost: $30 This time I wised up from the Ford experience and changed the T-stat myself - twice - once with a Pep Boys T-stat to get the car back on the road and a few months later with Townsend's kit in summer when the needle got too close to red.
Personal opinion - if you dont have a leak in the heater core, forget the Bars leaks.
