Hi folks,
I took my '92 9k into my local (and very trustworthy) Saab guy today to check on a transmission fluid leak. He says that what he found indicates that "the transmission is shot." He was recommending that I keep the tranny and limp along forever, adding transmission fluid periodically to replace the fluid that I'm leaving on the asphalt.
He quoted me a rebuilt tranny for $3600, although I've seen folks on this board say they can be had for $1700.
So what do you guys recommend? Limp along with the existing tranny (and buy another car for out of town trips and the like), or spend an ungodly amount of money on an old (but fun) car with 127,000 miles on the clock?
Has anyone ever taken a dead (or dying) Saab 9000 transmission to a "transmission shop" to have them rebuilt? Does that work?
Thanks for any and all help.
