I've put 130k miles on my '87 9000S and without a change the initial key-on voltage reading (per the EDU) has been 11.0V. as soon as a road speed signal is seen, the alternator output is 12.5-13.0. i would say to Tom that anything below 12.0V is cause for concern. the ECU needs to see 12.0 to function normally. plus to acurately check the charging syst. use a good meter with an amp. scale. you have to check the amp. output. the batt. could have a surface charge of 12.0 but no amps. from the alt.
