I think maximum boost on my '93 automatic is about .75 bar, which gets me into the start of the yellow/red. The .5 bar you are suggesting is little more than base boost, or perhaps five-eighths up the yellow. If I remove the dreaded fuse 9 (sorry, kids) and bypass the boost limit Saab thoughtfully fits for automatics, I get 1 bar at the most.
A couple of weeks ago I stopped off chez Abbott and talked to Ed Abbott briefly (borrowed his car for a spin, too, and liked the Koni/lowered setup very much). He was very positive about increasing boost pressure on automatics. However, I'm with you on wanting to preseve my transmission so would go no further than to say the pressures you are suggesting are below Saab' own conservative specs.
Oh, one more thing - Ed suggested that few 2.3s came out of the factory with the full 200 bhp. Feedback welcome!
