1990 9000 CD 2.0l turbo

See posts below if you don't know how I got to this point, and want to know.

I opted to try skipping the one broken bolt, to see if I could still get a seal. Seems like I can. I put a new o-ring on, put a new crankshaft seal on, put the new pulley in. Put the belts back on, turned the engine over before starting to get the oil going, then started her up. It appears NOT to be leaking. This is good news. The bad news: There is a distinct sound that was not there before. It a rapid clicking coming from the belt area, that speed up with engine speed. The belts look okay. I retensioned the A/C belt. The one thing that happened that I hope is not related, is that while I had the oil pump cover off the center gear fell out, which I promptly caught and put back in, but I had been hoping to just leave it as it was for good measure. Is there anything I can screw up while putting the center gear in? Once back in I had to align the notch in that center gear with the crankshaft when putting the cover back on, but it seemed to be fine. I should probably take the belts and the pulley off again and just put them back on to see if that magically solves the problem. Opinions, suggestions?
