For good measure, I remotivated last night to take off the belts and the pulley (but not the oil pump cover) to make sure it wasn't something silly. Put everything back together, but the CLICK remains. Tonight, I guess I'll try starting the car briefly without the belts to confirm the click remains and is coming from the oil pump. If so, I will reopen the oil pump. I'll check the gear, and I guess this time pack it with vaseline for good measure, although its hard to imagine the click is caused by not putting vaseline in there. To confirm, when everyone says "pack the pump", you mean filling the space between the gears.. it's really not a problem to put vaseline in your oil? I know, i know, its petroleum jelly. So far, the only thing I can imagine causing the click (other than something silly and unrelated in the belt area) is the notch on the center gear being somehow not quite sitting right, but that's a scary thought that I have something messed up in there. Hopefully tonight will yield the solution-- I'm sure you'll here from me around 9pm EST, getting my keyboard all greasy again, one way or the other.
