how difficult is your "difficult" ? What do you mean by "The gears are random" ?
I have a '95 9K Aero and it has difficulty engaging gear since day 1, but my difficult means it is not as smooth as you would find in a Honda 5-sp and the Honda box is a dearie to shift albeit longer throw.
Your coupler is different from earlier models since '95 (??) you should have the newer one as I do. They tend to last a bit longer and does not separate as the older one. It can be out of alignment or worn however.
I always have problem putting the gear into 1st after letting the clutch out at a light. Sometimes it goes in without problem, sometimes I need to put it into 4th and then 1st or something similar.
I mentioned this to numerous mechanics and sometimes they lub the link and that would work a bit better but it always go back to what it was after a while.
Have you checked your motor mounts, how do they look ? If it is the coupler, it doesn't take long to check.
