Recently, and inconsistently, I have had difficulty engaging gears. The gears are random, as is the problem. I first looked to the SAAB Net, and I believe Quasi's site, and found some comfort in the possibilty that there maybe a simple (and little $$)solution to this intermittent problem; replace the shift coupler. However, after going to speak with the owner of a shop about an oil change and snow tire switch-over on my car, I mentioned this shifting(?) problem, and without even finishing my statement, or even looking at the car he stated, "you need a new clutch". This is the same guy that told me that my rotors were warpped without even looking at them, and he was wrong about that.
Of course he may be correct about this one, however, I hope not!? I am not the original owner, and I do not have all of the previuous repair records, therefore, I am unsure if this is the original clutch. I do have 114K miles, and realize that if this is the original clutch it very well may be on it's way, but I also have not experienced any of what I know (not much) to be the "typical" symptoms (slipping, sluggish on hills, etc). I will be getting a second opinion, but would love some feedback from whomever what's to offer it up at this time.
