With M1, you should be able to go 10k on a good synthetic oil without worry, as well as the filter if you use a premium model like the Delco UPF-53 (Gold) or M1, both of which use a synthetic-fiber medium. I use the Delco because it is $1 cheaper and appears to be a better construction.
Some caveats: If you subject your car to short trips without full warmup (at least 150°, preferably 180°F), prolonged idling, or dusty conditions, you should probably shorten it to 5k. Also, change the oil early (3k) twice before starting on a 10k regimen to remove any sludge buildup from the fossil oil you've been using. If you've driven 72k miles on fossil oil (assuming six years at 12k miles/year), you should not fail to do this.
I don't use M1, but I had my oil analyzed by a lab twice (5k and 10k) before settling on 10k for an interval. You might do the same to cover your driving conditions.
