I'm doing a major dismantling of the dash on my '78 99T. I wanted to replace the boost gauge pipe, add wiring for the APC knock LED, pressure transducer etc. look at the speedo to find out why it only registers miles about half the time and also figure out why the heater controls were rubbish.
Suprise suprise, all three cable mounts were broken off. I've decided to drill small holes through and cable tie them in place - looks like others have done that in the past. I'm going to smear silicone grease (plastic friendly) round all teh control knob mechanisms and I've also lubricated the cables. Hopefully they'll last another 26 years :)
While on the subject, the manuals made no mention of the heater control box being held on with a big cable tie, yet there was one holding it to the duct. Looked original, but has anyone else found this? The manual just said to remove the screws and pull it up!
