I would guess that the car has an electric pump due to damage to the drive gear for the Wpump on the jackshaft. This is usually the result of a bad WP R&R or other problem. To replace the jackshaft you would need to R&R the engine. Pumps and seals are available. The problem with these pumps is drive gear failure caused by improper R&R technique or conflicts between original drive gear and new pump gear. The maybe foolproof fix comes in two versions. Retrofitting an 8 tooth gear jackshaft and waterpump, or finding a matched twelve tooth shaft and WP shaft and using new bearing and seals. Success with these waterpumps seems to be sort of a lottery. Seems that sometimes everything is done correctly and they fail anyway, and other times they seal and work great for many miles. The new shaft and pump, R&R the power unit, and you still may not be a winner. Search this board for other WP stories. I would buy the car if the price is right and be on the lookout for a good running engine with good non-leaking waterpump to swap in. Less work to achieve 'ALL STOCK' condition. Many 99's out there with the electric pumps these days as the electric is a win-win and the repair of the mechanical pumps seems to always be a gamble.
