I appreciate the pep-talk guys. Thing is, the issue of getting payment from the responsible party, and fixing the car, are 2 different issues. I would really like to fix the car, really. I've had the car for 25 years. It has been cross country mulitple times, and is really a great old girl. But, I can not count on any money from insurance (I explain why below), so I have to reconcile the notion of spending another $8-10K on the car, which is tough. I guess I was feeling flush when I reinvested in it most recently - new inexpensive paint job, brakes, water pump, all sorts of stuff, all of which I have receipts for - which makes it a little harder now for me to do it again. I'm not giving up exactly, but just feeling a little conflicted.
Also, note I do not have my own space to store the car. My shop in Santa Clara (who has been the premier SAAB Shop in the San Jose area for more than 20 years - guess who?) has been graciously storing the car for me, which I really appreciate, but there's a limit to their good will. I need to commit to fixing the car, or not, soon. So...
If someone has a 73ish 99 in the bay area that has a decent body, please let me know. Maybe we can put the two cars together somehow.
Also, need a transmission; It was a 5 speed early 90s gear box; Crusing at 85-90 was a lot of fun. I have heard the going rate is something like $2500.
Finally, for those of you interested in the legal details: Driver of 88 Ford Bronco got confused and drove into the intersection when the light was red for him, and me and another car crashed into the guy. He could not produce a license (guess why?) and the owner of the car had insurance with a fly-by-night company who has said "their guy said it was the fault of the two people who crashed into him", so they are not honoring my claim - how nice! (I am filling a complaint against them, and will sue the owner of the car). I was pretty stiff from whiplash, and banged up my knees pretty nicely too.
I did not carry collision insurance because I thought it would pay little for the car. I am told that, when I sue the owner of the car, the worth of my car will be an issue as well, so I could use some advice there; I've been advised that having receipts for work done recently is not necessarily an indication of its worth;
What's a mint 73 99 worth? Just took a look at the classifieds; This one is identical, except 2 dr: http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/class/ci.php3?ph=photos/4699/1
Thanks,
