the "thermostatic valve" was stuck shut on my 96 v4. I found a used replace
ment. There are only 4 screws that hold the valve in place, but after removing them, I had to remove the blower motor, the 8 screws that hold the
housing together and stand on my head in the cabin to get the last two bolts loose so that I could unwind the "thermostat coil", a thin copper wire loosely wrapped aroung two posts. My question is: what is the function
of the "thermostatic coil", and what would happen if i just snipped it off
so all i had to do to replace it in the future is unscrew the four screws that hold the valve in place? There is a manual switch there that is what was frozen in the first place, doesn't this control the heat? Please help
me understand!
