Congratulations if you've gotten it to start after the rebuild. Must be a
GREAT feeling! In answer to your ?, I've had 3 or four 96's and none of them ever did that. I suspect it is a minor electrical problem like one
of the fuses isn't seated properly, or two of the wires on the ignition
switch are switched or something like that. Suggestions: 1) Remove both battery cables and use one of those wire brushes on the terminals to make
sure they are bright, and shine the inside of the cable ends. This will make sure your basic battery connections are good. 2) Unscrew the cover of
the fuse box and remove the fuses one at a time and chek 4 corrosion. Better yet shine the ends of the fuse holders with emery cloth. If these
steps dont fix the problem, Check the wiring diagram in your manual against
the 4 or 5 wires connecting to the ignition switch. When You turn the key from off to on your headlight switch, stop light switch and the coil should
all receive current. When you turn to start that activates the starter.
It may be that the starter is dragging, (pulling all the current away from
the other accessories) to start. If so you may need a starter rebuild. To
check that requires more expertise than I am capable of. Any good mechanic,
or even walmart could check the starter to see what the draw down is when it operates. Good Luck! "The Kid"
