The Circuit diagram for the LHD '69 96 does not show clearly the function of the ingnition switch. However the following can be seen.
Terminal 50 on the ign. sw. goes directly to the starter motor.
Terminal 15 on the ign. sw. goes directly to the coil
Terminal 30 on the ign. sw. comes from the unfused side of the fusebox (+12V)
Terminal 54 on the ign. sw. goes to the unfused side of the fuse box feeding three fuses, pos. 7 wind shield wiper motor, pos 6 the heater fan, and 5 a white cable 113 that I cannot follow. It is quite possible that terminal 54 is switched off when starting to conserve power. You should be able to check with a voltmeter. The electric fuel pump should be connected through a suitable fuse to terminal 15 at the ign. switch.
