Well in the states most 99's were fuel injected anyway, but over here 'normal' 99's were single or twin carbs, unless you got an Auto. So yes the EMS was quite a performance hike! One plus point for post 75 EMS's is we got 118bhp, rather than the earlier D-jet cars which had 110bhp.
