It looks like your engine is running OK. The spark plugs is normal to look less new. If they look a bit black you are definetelly not running lean and you probably are running OK. Although very wet oily sparkplugs will indicate rich running.
Don't know very much about the internals of an automatic transmission but it certainly not right to get the shudder you are discribing. Somebody here may explain. The shudder may be some sort of clutch system in the transmission that does not engage the engine smoothly thus putting an uneven load to the engine. The engine management system tries to compensate for this when the engine is in idle mode. If you are in drive mode the engine management should not try to compensate and as a result you should be able to feel the car to appear to be jerky.
Finally if the problem is the transmission you should be able to hear and feel it when it loads the engine in an uneven manner.
