Good advice, Asia. Prob is, car is my daughter's, who will be taking it out to CA for a year, and, after a few other suprises, I've run out of time to do much more on it. I would make time to replace the cable, if I really thought it would do much good, but from what our excellent local Saab dealer tells, me, and posts here, it doesn't sound like it will make more than a tiny difference.
BTW, my motorbike has a massive Bowdenex cable that operates the back brakes, and in the middle of it there's a grease fitting! Wish I could figure out a way to add one to a NG clutch cable, hard to beat grease in this app, regularly reapplied.
Oh hey I found the clutch inspection plate but I sure can't see any way to lube the spine through it - everything is pretty damn crowded in there, maybe if I loosened the cable but that's scary too.
