Failing ignition switches doesn't seem to have any patterns at all as for what I have seen.
They just fail randomly hot or cold.
Maybe you know that the ignition switch have several outputs and 2 inputs?
Incoming power to switch is called +30. That is supplied to two pins in each end of the switch.
The outputs are called +15, +50, +54 and X.
The +15 seems to be the one failing most often. That pin supply fuse 17, 18 and 19 with power.
+50 supplies the power to starter solenoid, but over the theft alarm and a relay.
+54 and X is auxilliary power for a whole bunch of things.
One some cars where the switch failed often I hooked a volt meter up to one of the three fuses and could see the voltage drop over switch and at the same time the dash lights were dim. As soon as full battery voltage was restored and the dash lights bright, the car started.
Focus on fuse 17,18 and 19 next and look for a voltage drop.
