If the knucklehead previous owner neglected oil changes, which is what that failing turbo suggests, you'll need to do some investigation. Sled and Peter were totally right about checking the valve cover, but if you find anything -- tarry deposits of clumped, burned oil -- you might also want to drop the pan. Some folks suggest cleaning out the pan, cleaning the pick-up tube and screen, replacing the pan, then changing the oil after 500 miles, then every 1,000 for the next 5,000 miles, using a flushing solvent each time. This won't help the turbo at all, unfortunately, because once the journal bearings get coked up, only a rebuild can help them.
